Concept Sort Reading Strategy
The concept sort reading strategy is an activity that can be implemented to introduce students to new vocabulary related to a topic, book, concept or module. By providing students with a list of key terms, metalanguage or vocabulary students place these into different categories based on the meaning of each word/term. The concept sort reading strategy when used before reading can provide teachers with an opportunity to pre-assess students to determine what they already know about the topic or concept. This reading strategy can also be used after reading to further assess students' understanding of the text examined.
